My name is Shugg. My beard’s name is Jeff.
I started at MHBC on May 5, 2014 and I couldn’t be more proud.
Before I began pouring beer at MHBC, my brothers and I would rendezvous at 220 S Sylvania for the weekly tours. We would consume copious amounts of beer. It would be a lie if it said I wasn’t the guy who turned his paper wristband around as I headed to the bar to squeeze out just one more beer from the barkeep.
I started working at Martin House the first week of January. For the past couple years I’ve always dreamed of working at a brewery and now I had the chance.
I began as a beer pourer. As the new year came upon us, I saw everyone setting New Year’s resolutions. I realized I had no defined resolutions, but wanted to somehow join this world of craft beer of which I’d dedicated so much of my time over the past couple years.
It started off as an every Saturday ritual, though soon after I began taking PTO days from my previous job to help out. It did not take long for me to realize that I needed to be a part of what Martin House was trying to accomplish – spreading delicious, handcrafted beer to the fine folks of Texas.
While full and ready to take the job of keg cleaner and bathroom supervisor, I was offered a position at Martin House in the sales department.
It was the best decision I ever made.
Today I report to you today at the salesman/event coordinator/delivery driver/tour guy and official director of beard operations at MHBC.
I’m thankful for the opportunity to be a part of such a small and successful team.
I hope to see you all at the tours on Thursday and Saturday.
If you see me in the streets, know that it is perfectly acceptable to take a picture with my beard.
